Compared to any
smaller post mounted or wall mounted post box, built in mailboxes are more
durable and resistant to harsh whether elements. However, the installation of a
built in post box requires
some pre-installation planning.
Today built in
mailboxes are available in three designs. The three designs were developed
keeping in mind the installation part as well as how the user will want to
access their mails. The three designs are:
- Single front door mailbox access
- Front and back door mailbox access
- Stand alone mailboxes
Single front door mailbox access
This type of mailboxes
is preferred by most of the home owners. Front door access mailboxes are
designed in such a way that the homeowner and the postal carrier use the same
access point to operate the mail box. Single front door mail boxes are
generally installed in the exterior column or wall of the house.
Front and back door mailbox access
This type of mailboxes
allows homeowners to retrieve their mails from the back door of the mailbox
whereas the postal carrier will deliver the mail using the front door. Front
& back door mailbox is ideal for installations on busy streets where the
homeowner can stand freely and safely on the other side of the built in mail
box and retrieve their mails.
Stand alone mailboxes
This type of mailboxes
comes with a built in column, which are specifically designed to stand alone.
This means you need not to install this mail box in the column or walls of your
home. Furthermore, these types of mailboxes come with both only front door and
front and back door accessibility. As per your preference you can select the
design.
Also, since you need
not to install them, you can pick the type once your home is completely ready
to move in. However, since these mailboxes are bigger in design, it is ideal to
get the approval of a local postmaster, before installing them.
Most people consider
getting an appropriate mailbox after being a victim of mail theft. Well, it is
ideal to pick a mailbox before hand and thus make provisions for its
installation in order to make sure all your mails are protected.
